About The Sound Earthers' Project
Learn about The Sound Earthers Project, promoting environmental awareness through young African activists.
I’m Enock Jowel Nionzima, a Ugandan poet and climate advocate, and the heart behind The Sound Earthers Project. Born into a world defined by climate change, I grew up in Uganda’s hardest-hit regions, where floods and droughts left communities struggling.
As a child, I turned my pain into poetry, realizing my cries mirrored the earth’s—a plea for survival and justice. I believe I was born for this moment: to advocate for sustainability and rebuild a generation broken by calamity. Inspired by Nina Simone’s Young, Gifted & Black, I founded The Sound Earthers Project in 2024 to amplify young African activists—gifted soldiers armed with talent, science, and conviction. From Kenya’s forests to Tanzania’s coasts, I’ve met youth doing extraordinary work with so little. Their stories deserve a global stage. Guided by Proverbs 22:6—“It is better to build children than to repair men”—I’m committed to raising young African advocates to drive sustainable change, redefining advocacy by lifting up the unheard voices of change.

Sound Earthers are bold, passionate, and fearless changemakers of today. Youths, who are Young, Gifted and African with a lovely precious dream and open heart to fight for the Earth, a place they call home.
In a whole world, where many are degrading and killing the Earth and its environments, there are a million boys and girls, who are young, gifted, and African, and are at the frontline of the environmental crisis driving sustainable change. Intimate with the Earth, the Sound Earthers boldly preach and advocate sound doctrine on environmental issues to communities. We are united by our shared conviction that the earth deserves not just preservation but restoration, protection, and care. The injustices the earth faces are the injustices we fight against.
We have been oppressed, challenged and downtrodden by climate change, but through this crisis we’ve not lost our conscious, our soul is intact, we’ve been called for a great commission, to tell and advocate for sustainable development for the whole world that’s waiting for redemption. And as we stand up for this cause, we won’t have to look back and be haunted by our youth.
The Sound Earthers— are the sound voice of change, the thinkers, the poets, the artists, the architects, the innovators and the warriors of the Earth that are always fighting, challenging, and always striving for a better world.
The cry of the Earth is our cry, the injustice done to the Earth is done to us. Living in the mostly affected areas on Earth, we’ve been molded by adversity, calamities, insecurities and inadequacies to be soldiers. Soldiers with no guns but knowledge, science, art, and the will to heal the Earth that’s depleted and degraded. Amidst this crisis, we choose to stand up for what’s right to do, we choose to mend the Earth with sound solutions and our quest has just begun.
Our strength is that there are many struggles, issues, solutions, voices and stories that need to be put in a bigger picture by the young, gifted and African activists. And as Nina Simone said: ‘‘Oh, but my joy of today is that we can all be proud to say "To be young, gifted and black Is where it's at." Then we are to tell our young, and fight for what’s our right.
We are united in our conviction that the earth must be saved. We are committed to raising our voices—whether through creative expression, environmental education, activism, or innovation—to ensure that the earth’s cries are heard far and wide. We recognize that real change will not come from passive observance but from bold action.
We are here to break the silence. We are here to amplify the stories of young activists across the African continent who, against all odds, are speaking out, rising up, and taking action for the earth. Through Sound Earthers, we amplify their voices, telling their stories, and sharing their journeys with the world.
Every Sound Earther has a story to tell, and every story is a call to action—a call for the world to stand with us and stand with the earth.
